THE CLIMAX
After an hour of incredible, earth shuttering love making we got into the van and headed for the Royal Mara. Chris was silent all the way there, no matter how much I urged him he never said a word.
“What’s wrong?” My heart fell into my stomach as I braced myself for whatever grief that was chasing me down.
“There is something I need to tell you.” A shadow crossed his face as his expression immediately begun to close. He stared at his feet obviously avoiding looking me in the eye.
“You know you can tell me anything.” I squeezed his arm, as I tried to bring the Chris I was with an hour ago back. This Chris was scaring me. My heart froze in my chest as I waited for him to dump a tone of bricks on me. I assumed it was bad news, nothing good ever happened to me. And when it did, it didn’t last more than a second.
“You are going to hate me.” Chris’ eyes glistened with tears.
The van pulled into the Royal and I knew it was too late to save whatever it was. He gave me a quick kiss then helped me off the van. He held my hand until we got to a certain point then dropped it like it was hot coal.
“Forgive me.” Chris whispered.
I heard a screech then saw her lunged into his arms. “Jonathan I missed you so much.”
“Jonathan?” I mumbled.
“Sorry what?” The words flew out of my mouth.
I stared in shock as she kissed him and he kissed her back. A large crowd of who I assumed were their family applauded and whistled, cheering on my pain. When they finally pulled apart Chris stared forward and only what I interpreted as shame wouldn’t let him look me in the eye.
Chris grinned back despite himself, “I missed you too.” He turned to me then introduced me more like a stranger and not as the woman he claimed to love, “This is Wakio, she’d the lady who’s organizing the wedding from this end. We just went to the Naibor camp, to see the honeymoon suite.”
“Of course.” She pulled me into a sweet hug, making even more difficult for me to rip her world apart by telling her the truth.
“It’s nice to finally meet you.” I mumbled.
We did more than just see it. I decided to play along not to save him but to save myself from the embarrassment. I got the wind knocked out of me. Chris was Jonathan. My throat closed at the very thought. I had been duped again, twice in a lifetime was too much.
“Jonathan is a very sweet man. His words are his best asset.” I said through clenched teeth as I tried to keep the steel from slipping into my voice. I had to go; I had to leave before he saw how much he had humiliated me. Standing there gawking at him like an idiot wasn’t doing my pride any favors. “Excuse me, I have to go now.
